The Board Chair of the Network of Human Rights Defenders in Central Africa, better known by its French acronym as REDHAC, Barrister Alice Nkom, has called for the dismissal of Cameroon’s Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary.
The recent outing of the Board Chair of REDHAC, comes after the Minister of Communication in his latest outing recognised that the Cameroonian Army are responsible for a video in which women and children were brutally murdered in the Far North Region of Cameroon.
Alice Nkom called on the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Paul Biya, to take his responsibility. “I am expecting the Chief of Armies to take the consequences of this kind of situation. He knows what to do, but I suspect that Mr. Tchiroma did exactly what they asked him to do”, she added.
According to the Non-Governmental Organisation, the Minister disseminated false information and blamed REDHAC for tarnishing the image of the Cameroonian army without carrying at a an effective investigation on the incident.
“This is clear that the big liar in this, and today we know that everything coming from the mouth of the Minister of Communication is a lie,” Alice Nkom reiterated.
Going by Nkom, REDHAC is therefore not sure of the safety of civilians in the North West and South West Regions which to the rights defenders are being asked to go to school without a guarantee of security.
“How can we trust our army when we know that army is never there to protect the people? How do they expect parents to send their kids to school after watching such a horrific video,” the Board Chair added.
REDHAC added that Cameroonian cannot be governed by propagators of unverified information and thus the need for change.
