Another high-tech Cameroonian has created a new search engine for misplaced items christened Lost but Found. The brain behind the search engine Gobinna Simon has also found a new way of producing quality and lasting pictures dubbed Broaden Pictures.
These groundbreaking high-tech innovations have only come to add to the numerous technological strides made by young Cameroonians in Buea, South West Region of Cameroon which has been codenamed Cameroon’s Silicon Mountain.
Lost but Found and Broaden Pictures are the innovative- technological craft works of Cameroonian-born Gobinna Simon, Director of Home Box Videos in Buea, South West Region of Cameroon.
According to Gobinna Simon, the Lost but Found search engine is a concept which aims at minimising the traumatic experiences that people go through when they misplace their valuable items. “With this search engine, people will be able to easily locate their lost items online. All they need do is to snap their missing items and send to the site with a precise description and the list of missing items will be send to them for verification and vice versa,” Gobinna asserted.
To the high-tech genius, Broaden Pictures is another form of photography, where pictures are produced with a glass substance. This innovation makes pictures to be water resistant and can last for over 25 years.
He said with the advent of smart phones, many Cameroonians don’t see the importance of hard pictures since everything is snap and stored in phones. Gobinna said Broaden Pictures was therefore created to give back the pride of place of hard professional pictures that smart phone users have ridiculed in recent times.
He further averred that under his Home Box Videos hub, thousands of young Cameroonians, who are high-tech lovers, are being trained on video directing, photography, online marketing and software designing, in order for them to become entrepreneurs that can positively impact their society.
However, despite its success story, Home Box Video Hub is also plagued by a plethora of challenges amongst which is the current socio-political Crisis rocking the Anglophone Regions, where people live in fear.
Going by the high-tech wizard, the present security situation in the Region makes the trainees to be seasonal. “Also the Lost but Found search engine is not realised in Cameroon in it full capacity because of the influx of dishonest and corrupt persons who pick up missing items but do not declare them.”
Gobinna expressed optimism that despite being a novelty in Cameroon, the signs are encouraging that the search engine will be bang as its two months existence has been epic.
