Kamto declares himself winner of October 7 Presidential poll

The Flagbearer of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM, Professor Maurice Kamto, has declared himself winner of the October 7, 2018, Presidential election in Cameroon.

He made the declaration today, Monday, October 8, 2018, during a press conference at CRM headquarters at Nlongkak neighborhood in the nation’s political capital Yaounde.

Talking to both national and international press, Professor Kamto openly declared himself winner of the Presidential election and urged Biya to hand over power peacefully.

“My mission was to score the penalty and I just accomplished that mission…Maurice Kamto told the press.

The press conference which was scheduled for 10:00 am today was later rescheduled for 3:00pm because of security reasons. Cameroon military officers had surrounded the CRM party headquarters hours before the start of the press conference.

Since yesterday, supporters of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement have been chanting songs of victory following the trend of the election results received in the 10 Regions.

According to the Cameroon electoral law, election results are to be proclaimed by the Constitutional Council within 15 days after voting.

Members of the Constitutional Council were appointed months ago by incumbent President, Paul Biya.
