African migrants treated as rubbish by Italian and French authorities

Italy has accused French authorities of driving and dumbing two black men, possibly African migrants, into Italy’s territory.

On Tuesday, Italy’s far right Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, accused France of dumping black men in Italian territory without Italy’s consent. He requested to know the identity of the two men who he believe are migrants and should be repatriated.

‘Witnesses reported seeing a French police van cross the mountain border at Claviere, near the Italian ski resort of Sestriere, and making two black men get out in a wooded area before driving back the short distance to France’ Reuters has reported.

This is another incidence where western European authorities continue to treat African migrants as filthy unwanted beings to be disposed of through any means.  In December 2017, the Guardian accused European leaders of sponsoring groups that torture migrants in attempt to reduce migrant flow into Europe.

‘In an attempt to stem the flow of people across the Mediterranean to Europe, the EU is financing a system that routinely acts in collusion with militia groups and people traffickers to “make money from human suffering”’ The Guardian quoted an Amnesty International Report.

‘European governments have not just been fully aware of these abuses; by actively supporting the Libyan authorities in stopping sea crossings and containing people in Libya, they are complicit in these crimes’ the article continued.

However, even as European states continue to abuse African migrants and mistreat them, most African government officials have stayed silent, telling the migrants they are not victims. They should not have left their country in the first place. Majority of Africans are fleeing their home countries as unemployment, conflict, and the illusion of a better life in Europe both push and pull them, some of whom die in the seas.
