The Social Democratic Front (SDF) party officials in the Littoral and South West Regions of Cameroon are divided over moves geared towards staging a public protest over what they termed massive fraud in this year’s Presidential election.
The event expected to be staged on October 21 is tearing the party barons apart.
The SDF Littoral Regional Chairman, Honourable Jean Michel Nitcheu, in a letter dated October 15 addressed to the Divisional Officer(DO) of Douala III Sub-division makes bold the intention to stage the protest.
According to Nintcheu’s notification, a copy which we read through, the lawyer cum politician informed the DO that the SDF intends to stage a public meeting on ‘Ronpiont Dakar in the Douala III municipality.
The letter indicates tha, the meeting is expected to begin at 3:00 PM on Sunday October 21.
In the letter, Nintcheu asserts that the meeting is to denounce the massive fraud witnessed in the October 7 Presidential poll. He writes that, the meeting will end with a peaceful march on the axis ‘Carrefour-Dakar-Carrefour GCC-Ndokoti.
Yet hours after Nintcheu’s declaration, Adolphe Lotin Same, SDF Divisional Coordinator for Wouri wrote to the Senior Divisional Officer(SDO) dissociating the party from any public protest.
Lottin said, the SDF dissociates itself from what he termed in his letter dated October 15 as ‘a personal initiative’ of Nintcheu.
Lottin informs the Prefect that anyone who will participate in the planned protest on Sunday will be in their personal capacities and not as militants of the SDF party.
The Divisional Coordinator draws the attention of the Prefect to the fact that Nintcheu’s letter is done using the letterhead of the National Assembly and is susceptible to create confusion which the party is not engaged in.
Before now, Nintcheu who is the Regional boss of the party in the Littoral had made public his resolve to stage a public march in support of Kamto if it is established that, his ‘victory’ at this year’s Presidential election is stolen.
Observers see a manifestation of politics. For one thing, Nintcheu is of the SDF, while Kamto is of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) party.
Both parties are not into any coalition. Besides, Joshua Osih Nambangi, candidate of the SDF party at the elections has called for calm pending the official proclamation of results. It is left to be seen what happens between now and the weekend within the SDF in Douala.
