The Super Falcons of Nigeria have won the 2018 African Women Cups of Nations Final held in Accra, Ghana after beating South Africa’s Banyana Banyana 4-3 in penalties.
They won Cameroon 4-2 in the semi-finals to qualify for the finals.
“Goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi’s heroic acts on Satuday in Accra helped the Super Falcons in Nigeria to victory at the 11 African Women Cup of Nations in Ghana,” Nigeria News Agency has declared.
This is the ninth AWCON Finals won by the Falcons who have continued to dominate female soccer in Africa. They have won 9 of the 11 AWCON competitions held in the continent.
The spectacular performance of the Falcons has been in stark contrast to the performance of the Nigeria’s men Super Eagles, who have only won three AFCON Finals in 1980, 1994, and 2013.
Some Nigerians will see this as a clear indication that what a man can do, a woman can do better.
