Buea(National Times)- The South West Regional Capital Buea, was totally locked down following the appearance of Sisiku Julius Ayuk Tabe and other Ambazonian leaders who were arrested in Nigeria and extradited to Cameroon before the Military Tribunal in the nation’s capital Yaoundé on Thursday, January 10, 2019.
Buea, which is yet to regain steam following the numerous ghost towns experienced within the past weeks, was shut down again for another.
Gun shots were heard last night in neighbourhoods like Mile 14, Mile 16 and Bomaka, this further intensifies the non-movement and circulations of persons and vehicles.
Business premises, shops are once again completely grounded in the newly baptised City of Excellence and its environs. Similar situation is experience in all towns in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.
It should be noted that a similar lockdown was experienced on Monday, January 7, 2019, in Buea and the Mayor of Buea Municipality went on a rampage sealing shops and other business premises for respecting the ghost town.
With another ghost town staged Thursday, no one in the Municipality knows the next step Mayor Patrick Ekema will take too fight the ghost.
In an interview granted to the press, Patrick Ekema assured the population of Buea that by January 31, 2019, the ghost towns would be defeated.
The National Times gathered that the shutdown of activities on January 10, was an order from a communiqué signed by the Ambazonian Interim Leader, Samuel Sako on Monday, January 7, 2019, instructing a national lockdown in the two English-speaking Regions of Cameroon.
According to the Interim Government, the lockdown was to show support, solidarity and to sympathize with Sisiku AyukTabe and the other leaders as they appear in court to answer charges levelled against them by the Government of Cameroon.
According to the communiqué, “there shall be no movement of cars and persons across Ambazonia on those days so as to give maximum attention to the trial of the leadership of our revolution. The Interim Government has called on all restoration forces in the North West and South West Regions to strictly enforce the lockdown in the interest of the revolution.
