Cavaye Stays On As House Speaker Of National Assembly

Yaounde (National Times)-Cameroon’s long time serving speaker of the National Assembly Honourable Cavaye Yeguie Djibril has been re-elected  to stay on in the same position  as bureau elections go underway  in Yaounde ,Thursday March 14.

Cavaye, the candidate of the CPDM- ruling party scored 118 votes  to succeed himself as House Speaker.  Twenty other members of parliament casts null votes.

The reelection of the veteran politician is no surprise to most Cameroonians who have seen him in that post under the Biya regime 27 years. He  first rose to that platform in 1992.

Cavaye is a senior Administrative Secretary by profession.  He is equally the traditional ruler (lamido) of Mada-Tokombere Sub Division, Mayo-Sava Division, Far North Region of Cameroon.  He was born on January 1st 1940.

As  member of the political bureau of the ruling CPDM party, Cavaye rose from the position of Member of parliament, MP . He got re-elected and was subsequently voted into the bureau of the National Assembly as Questor , later  vice president  and then president  of the same legislative chamber.

The outcome of today’s voting shows that, the architecture of the Biya regime may not change any time soon despite yearnings for such to happen within certain portions of the public.
