Yaounde(National Times)-The Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement, CPDM party of president Paul Biya has summoned its parliamentarians and senators for a meeting this March 14th ahead of bureau elections at the senate and national Assembly.
According to a release issued Wednesday March 13th by the CPDM Secretary for Political Training and formation professor Paul Celestine Ndembiyembe, the meetings will take place at the Yaounde conference center.
According to the release, members of the national assembly will converge at 10AM while Senators will meet at 12noon.
The summons written on the instructions of the party scribe Jean Kuete is expected to enable the CPDM brief its senators and MPs on the party’s choices as bureau elections rumble off today.
However, pundits predict that, there will be no major changes in terms of leadership at the level of the Senate and the National Assembly. President Biya who is chairman of the CPDM party is expected to renew his confidence in the choices of Honourble Cavaye Yegue Djibril as house speaker and Senator Marcel Niat Njifenji as Senate president.
Cavaye has served beyond a quarter century as speaker of the National Assembly of Cameroon. Senator Niat on his part has been the pioneer Senate president since 2013 when the institution saw the light of day.
Niat had taken ill within the period of the presidential election with many predicting that he would retire from active politics. The statesman who missed Biya’s inauguration for a new term of office on November 6th, 2018 has since regained stamina and may likely be proposed as the only candidate of the CPDM for reelection as Senate president.
