Developing: New PWD Bamenda Coach, Players Feared Abducted

Bamenda (National Times)-Augustine Choupou, new head coach of Division I club PWD of Bamenda is feared kidnapped alongside some players of the club in the course of this Friday April 5th  in the same city in the restive North West Region of the country.

Details on the circumstances leading to the abduction are still sketchy. He it is feared that, the concerned might have been ambushed while in a training session in the same city.

Choupou just assumed duty as PWD head coach after his predecessor Jean Baptist Tanguem was fired on March 28th  over a string of poor results.

It is the second attack on a football coach within weeks in the same city. On Tuesday March 19th,  it was th abduction of Young Sports Academy (YOSA) coach Emmanuel Ndoumbe Bosso. The football tactician was later released at nightfall. Two days after, he signed a new contract with another Division I club side Coton Sport of Garoua.

PWD and YOSA are two clubs based in English speaking Cameroon  in the top Division I league. Hundreds of its supporters and sympathisers have since been cursing unknown gunmen for attacking sports men in the restive Region.

Weeks ago, it was another similar attack on players of the University of Buea football club kidnapped right on campus. They were released days after following negotiations and payment of ransoms. We are monitoring the situation in Bamenda and will keep our readers updated.
