Douala (National Times)-Cameroon’s Public Health Minister Manaounda Malachie has ordered for investigations into the circumstances leading to the death of a student stabbed Friday March 29 after a video of the deceased in a theatre room reportedly filmed by hospital personnel reverberate on social media.
Minister Manaouda in a tweet Saturday expressed condolences to the family of the deceased student but insisted that, investigations have to be done to ascertain the respond of health personnel at the Deido Hospital to the student.
Oumane Bleriot Tsanou, 17 stabbed on the campus of Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Deido-Douala, in the course of Friday after a reported brawl with an acquaintance over a phone was declared death at the health facility within the same vicinity. Medics had tried to reanimate the student to no avail.
News of the incident was yet to settle when a video and pictures of medics on duty emerged filming the victim of the knife attack. It is unclear if Tsanou had died before the pictures were taken. Critics however argued that, the pictures were taken same time the medics were battling to reanimate the heart of the student.
It is widely feared that, the medics might have been negligent in handling the emergency of Tsanou. Those who believe in such anticipation think, the personnel on duty rather used the predicament of the student to enjoy the niceties of their android phones at the expense of saving life.
The minister’s announcement of investigations into the matter has alerted Cameroonians with many waiting to see if sanctions will be meted on culprits.
