Canadian Government Offers 3 billion Humanitarian Aid to Cameroon

Yaounde (National Times) – The Canadian government has offered the government of Cameroon, $ 6 million to help the country address its growing insecurity and humanitarian challenges. The 6.5million dollars which is over 3 billion CFA FRANC to target the FAR NORTH, EAST, NORTHWEST and SOUTHWEST regions of Cameroon. The selected regions have been facing security challenges and humanitarian challenges over the past decade.

This financial assistance from the Canadian government is a product of the strong bilateral ties that Canada shares with Cameroon. This ties are a product of the shared culture between but countries. Canada and Cameroon are the only countries in the world with English and French as official languages. This shared juridico-cultural structure have provided an opportunity for at least 1,870 Cameroonians to study in Canada. Some Cameroonians have even gotten employment opportunities in Canada.

The declaration of the assistance was made by the visiting Canadian deputy Minister for sub Saharan Africa, LESLEY MARTIN in an audience granted him this Wednesday 10th April 2019, by the Minister delegate at the Ministry of External relations, in charge of relations with the Islamic world, ADOUM GARGOUM.

Present at the meeting was the Commonwealth Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of cooperation with the Commonwealth, FELIX MBAYU, who witnessed the announcement which will help stabilize the refugee situation in the FAR NORTH, EAST, NORTHWEST  and SOUTHWEST regions of Cameroon.

The construction of infrastructure regarding the 2021 nations cup in Cameroon were at the centre of discussion during the audience meeting. The country’s High Commissioner to Cameroon, NATHALIE O’NEIL assured the Cameroonian government that construction works will be delivered on time.
