Seedorf Names New Players In Cameroon’s Tentative AFCON Squad

Yaounde (National Times)-Clarence Seedorf has added three new player in a 34-man preliminary squad of the Indomitable Lions  to represent Cameroon at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

The trio; Tristan Dingome, Steve Regis Mvoue and Jean Charles Castelletto were unveiled on Wednesday.

Steve Regis Mvoue helped the Lions to grab a second title at the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations weeks ago in Tanzania. The youngster’s brilliant performance earned him the Player of the Tournament award.

Defender Castelletto has featured in 30 league games for French side Stade Brestois this season. He has  scored two goals during the campaign that will see the  Ligue 2 club finish second.

Stade de Reims midfielder Dingome has managed to score once in 18 appearances because of rotation.While Castelletto and Dingome have made one appearance each for the senior squad, the young Mvoue, meanwhile, is a new comer.

Seedorf and his boys will travel to Spain on June 4 for a pre-tournament training camp.

The five-time champions of Africa will start defending their title in Group F against Guinea-Bissau at Ismailia Stadium on June 25. Later on June 29, they will play the Black Stars of Ghana before taking on  Benin on July 2.

Cameroon were the initial hosts of the 2019 ACON before the Confederation of African Football, CAF, moved the tournament to Egypt. Cameroon failed to meet  the conditions CAF expected of it to host the tournament.
