‘Amba Boys’ Demand FCFA 15 Million To Reinstate Water To Community

Limbe(National Times)-Inhabitants of the Mile 4 neighbourhood of  Limbe, Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroon have revealed that the pro-independence fighters are  demanding a  FCFA 15 million ransom to reinstate pipe bone water in the area.

The Mile 4 neighbourhood has been without potable water for some time. Inhabitants told The National Times that the ‘Amba Boys’ have blocked a reservoir at Wotutu village that supplies water to homes.

Other inhabitants revealed to The National Times that the ‘Amba Boys’ are accusing the Mile 4 and Wotutu communities of not collaborating with them.

“The Amba Boys blocked the water reservoir supplying portable to us. We have gone for a month now without drinking water. The Amba Boys told us that the reason for blocking the water reservoir is because of lack of collaboration and the stubbornness of the Chief of Wotutu village” a quarter head in one of the quarters of Mile 4 quipped.

The quarter head added that the pro-independence fighters warned that should the water reservoir be opened, the entire system will be destroyed.

“The Amba Boys warned us not to make any move to reinstate water supply without their knowledge. They said even if the community station military men around the water reservoir to guard the place they will still attack the place and destroy the water reservoir. They are demanding the sum of FCFA 15 million from us before the reinstating water supply. Every household in Mile 4 and Wotutu are currently contributing FCFA 2000 each to meet the said amount”, our source added.

Information from the population holds that every household has started chipping in their own contribution to meet the amount demanded by the pro-independence fighters.

The  people of Mile 4 now cover kilometres to Half Mile and Down Beach to fetch portable water.

It should be noted that the unknown gunmen believed to be members of the pro-independence fighters have made countless attempt to kidnap the Chief of Wotutu village.  Such attempts have failed owing to heightened state security across Limbe.
