Yaounde (National Times)-Orange Cameroon, one of leading telecommunication networks in the country has offered brand new smarts phones and airtime worth FCFA 50.000 each to the cadet lions team that clinched gold at the just ended under 17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Tanzania.
The gesture was unveiled on Tuesday April 30 at a hotel in Yaounde during a meeting between the team and the company’s officials.
Ekoi Manfred goalkeeper of the cadet lions expressed gratitude to the fans for the level of support showed them. “I’m happy for the supporters. I’m so excited to see people clapping hands for me,” the young shot stopper commented.
He added that one of the reasons behind his outstanding performance was as a result of an oath which he took with his coaches-“I made an oath to the coaches that I will not take more than 4 goals in the field of play. That is why I developed my skills so that I could use it to save my team and keep the oath that I took.”
Thomas Libiih on his part, laid emphasis on the concentration they will now put in their preparation for the world cup in Brazil. “We are thinking about the world cup. We need to see how we could have a good preparation and I will speak with the federation to see how we will prepare everything before the world cup” the former indomitable lion stated.,
Cameroon’s victory in Tanzania makes it a second title for the team in the U17 competition, following a previous trophy in 2003.
The Cadet lions joined Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia and Mali [2017 winner] as 2 time champions of the competition. Morocco will be the host of the next edition which is slated for 2021
