Das Es Salaam(National Times)-The cadet lions of Cameroon beat Morocco 2-1 to qualify for the semi-finals of the Under 17 African Cup of Nations( AFCON) taking place in Tanzania on Thursday April 18. The same victory gives the country a place at the U17 World Cup.
Ismaila Seidou helped Cameroon with a brace which didn’t just propel them to be among the best four teams in the tournament but also got them qualified for the U17 world billed forBrazil.
They join Nigeria who were the first African country to grab a ticket for the world tournament, after beating Angola 1-0 on Wednesday April 17.
Coach Thomas Libiih and his squad have so far been successful since the start of the competition in Tanzania. In their first encounter, the lions recorded a 2-0 victory against GuineaBefore the encounter against Morocco on Thursday, the staff of the Cameroonian squad, had expressed much optimism. The coach promised a performance void of pressure.
A similar message also came from the head of the Cameroon delegation; the Inspector General at the Ministry of Transport Michelle Mbarga who said said “I came to give them a booster. A win will push Cameroonians to support them.”
It is worth noting that the squad of the cadet lions was reduced from 21 to 18 during an MRI screening exercise which eliminated three of the team’s players for being above the prescribed age.
The competition is now going on without Tanzania the hosts who were kicked out in a 0-3 loss to Uganda.
