Nike US giant sportswear maker has expressed concerns over recent rape allegations made against Portuguese footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Nike said in a statement seen by Associated Press on Thursday 4 October that they’are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation” regard allegations of rape made against Ronaldo by US teacher, Kathryn Mayorga at a Las Vegas hotel in 2009.
Ronaldo who has denied the allegations, calling them fake news, has a contract with Nike purportedly worth $1 billion.
I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense.
