Bafoussam(National Times)- Controversy has engulfed the public space in Cameroon since the evening hours of Sunday, January 13, following the death of the Senior Divisional Officer(SDO) for the Hauts-Plateaux Division in the West Region, Bilonougou Felix.
In the face of the multiple contrary narratives over the demise of President Biya’s personal representative in the Haut-Plateaux, the Governor of the West Region, Augustine Awa Funka, has issued an announcement clarifying the happenstance.
According to the announcement no:001/CR/F/CAB dated January 14, the Governor writes that his former collaborator died following a malaise.
The Regional administrator disclosed that the Prefect died in Bafoussam in the Regional capital.
Awa in his announcement expresses the condolences of the Minister of Territorial Administration and his to the family of the fallen administrator.
Before the Governor’s communiqué early Monday, rumours and social media posts had emerged that the Prefect died in a hotel room.
While most of such unofficial communication talked of Belinougou having suffered from a heart attack, others of such report poked into further controversial issues. Some of the issues even touched on the privacy of the deceased.
The death thus brings to two the number of Divisions in Cameroon without SDOs. There is a vacant position of the Prefect in Mayo Louti Division in the North Region following the appointment of Zacharia Njoya as Minister Delegate in the Ministry of Transport.
