Bamenda (National Times)-At least six persons are reported killed in Wum , Menchum Division of the North West Region under circumstances linked to the clashes pitting security forces and suspected separatists’ fighters . The incident which occurred Thursday March 28 remains unexplained.
A local source indicated that, three men and a woman were spotted lifeless at T-Junction in the locality of Wum in the course of the day. Two other persons are said to have died at the scene after an explosive from one of the corpses reportedly exploded ending their lives.
The National Times could not authenticate information that, the explosive that killed two other persons was a grenade placed on corpses after the persons were killed.
At night fall, persons with relatives in the affected locality were still releasing unconfirmed reports of more persons reportedly being pulled out of their homes and killed. Yet no group has claimed responsibility for the killings.
Reports hold that, unlike other cases wherein corpses of persons hit by stray bullets were buried in haste, the victims of today’s cross fire are feared to be still abandoned at the spot of their demise.
Today’s development marks the third consecutive Thursday of instability in Wum. Similar deadly clashes were reported on Thursday the 14th, 21st and Thursday the 28th.
Recently, a woman with royal connections died in hospital days after she suffered multiple gunshots within the same area.
Since the evening hours of Wednesday, there has been a reported presence of security forces on a mission to restore peace and order . The atmosphere in Wum has since then been unstable as gunshots have been recurrent.
The current crusade against separatists’ fighters that is in a second year running since president Biya ordered soldiers out on a campaign to preserve Cameroon’s territorial integrity and restore on November 30, 2017.
