FECAFOOT Justifies Choice Of Coq Sportif Over Puma

Yaounde (National Times)-The President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Seidou Mbombo Njoya, says the institution’s deal with the sportswear company (PUMA) collapsed because the latter offered a three quarter slash of offers enjoyed in the last 20 years.

Njoya made the revelation Monday April 22 during a press conference at the FECAFOOT head office in Tsinga, Yaounde. He said Puma which had been sponsoring the lions for over 20 years now wanted to renew their contract with them only on the condition that they slash down their offer by three.

The president said, the PUMA condition was unacceptable. FECAFOOT turned le Coq Sportif which proposed something better. He however did not disclose the details of the offer but announced that it shall be communicated during a General Assembly session with the executive committee of the federation.

The Indomitable Lionesses will be the first of Cameroon’s national teams to wear coq sportif from the 10th of June, during the women’s world cup to be hosted by France from 7 June to 7 July 2019.

Other issues discussed during the Press conference were the Comoros’ request for Cameroon to be disqualified from the 2019 AFCON. On this, Seidou Mbombo Njoya disclosed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had sent a message assuring him that the complaints tabled by Comoros are a closed affair.

Njoya further highlighted FIFA’s acceptance to finance the rehabilitation of the Odza Technical Center and also an evaluation of his first 120 days as president of FECAFOOT.
