Yaounde (National Times)-Yong Sports Academy (YOSA) football club of Bamenda is sure of taking part in Cameroon’s top tier championship next season while sister club PWD from the same city remains threatened with a possible relegation to the inferior league.
Matches played Sunday April 28th produced different outcomes for the future of both clubs. PWD lost to Dragon FC in Yaounde one goal to zero. PWD still need to take part in the playoffs against 5 other teams from the relegation zones in Group A and Group B of the championship, before they can know their situation.
YOSA have their place secured for next season with 21 points on the 4th spot of Pool B after drawing with Stade Renard 0-0,. The Abakwa boys who occupy the 8th position of the Group A classification table with 19 points, would have been the 5th out of 9 teams in their pool if they grabbed the three points against Dragon.
This is because the three teams ahead of them; Colombe, Union of Douala and Avion FC, all have 20 points. It therefore means that with three more points, PWD could have had 21 points in total which were enough to save their spot for the next season.
In the relegation playoffs which are to be played in a fortnight, 6 teams will be involved and a total of 10 home and away matches would be played to determine the three clubs that will drop to the inferior League.
With the 18th day of play ended, no team from the Northwest Region is qualified to take part in the playoffs for the 2019 title of the League 1 championship.
