Bamenda(National Times)- Cameroon’s top tier club PWD from the North West Region now has a slimmer chance of escaping relegation to the inferior league after playing a 1-1 tie against Coton sport of Garoua on Saturday April 20. This was day 16th of the first division championship.
Fans knew it was an opportunity for them to grab three points and get out of the relegation zone in Pool A .Some key players of Coton Sport were absent including Daouda Kamilou and Etta Bawak amongst others.
However, coach Augustine Choupo’s boys started the game just as the supporters had expected by leading the first half through Owen Mbeh Mikel’s 22nd minute goal.
Unfortunately for the Bamenda club, their lead did not last for long with Coton Sport’s Aime Gerard Mangolo netting the equaliser at the 62nd minute.
The match ended 1-1, putting PWD on the 7th spot out of 9 in Pool A, with 16 points. This position means that the Abakwa boys must win their next two games against TKC in Bamenda, and Dragon in Yaounde, to be sure of a place in the League one championship next season.
If three points are grabbed in their next match, PWD club could be out of the red zone depending on the performance of the last two teams of group A ; Colombe and New Stars in their next games. Avion FC who are one point ahead of PWD could equally have an influence on the Bamenda club’s position, depending on how they play in their next match.
Meantime, YOSA a sister club recorded a 1-0 victory against Fovu on Saturday which put them on the 4th spot in Pool B with 19 points.
As the League I championship gradually draws to an end, it should be noted that, the second division is already over after day 14 of the competition played on Friday April 19th
On this last playing day, Bang Bullet of Nkambe beat AS FAP 1-0, even though they still finished in the relegation zone of Group A. They occupy the 5th spot out of 7 with 17 points.
