Cairo (National Times)-The Confederation of African football (CAF) has chosen ace Cameroonian indomitable lions’ player Rigobert Song alongside three other star players of the continent viz; Yaya Toure, Elhadji Diouf, and Emanuel Amunike to lead the draws of the AFCON 2019 to rumble off in Cairo Egypt in the hours ahead.
Song’s identity features on the list after days of controversy back at home over a rumoured summons to the country’s special Criminal Court (SCC). The same rumours went wild that he was to appear for questioning this Friday April 12 at 12 noon. This was in relation to a supposed FCFA 700 million bullet proof vest supply business deal involving detained former Defense Minister Abraham Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo’o.
He issued an audio message rejecting the reports that were gaining grounds across social media networks. He had promised his detractors to watch him on television this evening as the draws for the AFCON 2019 will be taking place.
The movers and shakers of African football are already in Egypt for this evening’s exercise. The exercise is expected to begin at 6:30 PM Cameroon time.
It will be the first edition of the tournament to have 24 Participating countries. Cameroon was stripped of the hosting right. Egypt came in at the brink of time as CAF cited security challenges and infrastructural deficiencies as key reasons to withdraw the tournament from Song’s country.
