Biya Buckles Under CAF’s Dictates, Accept To Host 2021 AFCON

Yaoundé (National Times)-The President of the Republic of Cameroon has accepted CAF’s decision to strip Cameroon off her 2019 AFCON hosting rights and has reiterated the country’s readiness to host 2021 AFCON tournament.

According to the Vice President of CAF, Constant Omari, the President of the Republic of Cameroon has written to CAF with regards to the decision to withdraw the hosting and has accepted to host AFCON 2021.

“We have a very favourable return from Cameroon… President Paul Biya wrote to us officially to confirm his agreement to organise 2021….Paul Biya thus complies with the decision of the CAF Executive Committee, which withdraws the organisation of 2019 AFCON from Cameroon, notably for delay in the planning of the preparatory work and unsavoury security context,” ,” Constant Omari said.

Meanwhile, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad, confirmed to the press that Cameroon will recover the organisation of the CAN 2021 in place of Ivory Coast.
