Casualties Feared As Gunmen Attack Governor’s Convoy On Visit To Burnt Kumba Hospital

Buea(National Times)-Few persons are feared wounded and suspected separatists’ fighters killed Tuesday February 12 following a gun attack on the convoy of the Governor of the South West Region of Cameroon Bernard Okalia Bilai as he went visiting the burnt Kumba District Hospital.

The convoy known to have been on top speed to Kumba is said to have encountered attacks on two portions of the Kumba-Buea Highway. Sources told The National Times that, the Governor’s entourage was first attacked around Muyuka in Fako Division.

Another of similar gun attack is known to have occurred at Mbalangi Village In Mbonge Sub Division Meme Division.

Unofficial information is to the affect that, some few persons in the convoy sustained varied injuries. Windscreens of some vehicles that accompanied the administrator are said to have been shattered in the face of cross fire exchange.

One of the official cars on the convoy is said to have received multiple bullets. The National Times could not ascertain if the said vehicle was that of the Governor.

The suspected separatists fighters are said to have suffered human casualties in the course of the confrontations. As at now, figures of such reported deaths remain out of public knowledge.

Bernard Okalia Bilai is yet to make an official statement following the attack on his convoy today. It is the second of such attacks on the same administrator in his unit of command since the Anglophone crisis. In early 2018, the convoy of the same administrator was attacked in Lebialem Division as he went o install Ashu Mbakaya Eta as the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO of that restive Division.
