Despite Abduction, PWD Coach Steer Team Out Of Relegation Zone

Bamenda(National Times)-Bamenda based football club PWD, have crawled out of the relegation zone of pool A in the League I Championship, after beating New Stars of Douala 1-0.

The team’s victory came shortly after the abduction and release of team’s coach, Augustine Choupo on April 5.

The game against New Stars counted for day 13 of the Division I Championship and the second match the new coach has had with the club.

His first was against Union of Douala whom they thrashed 2-0 at the same Yong Sports Stadium in Bamenda, where they received New Stars on Sunday, April 7.

All of these positive results are in fulfillment of the first objectives set by Augustine Choupo, when he arrived the Abakwa Boys’ camp.

“If we must attain our objective, we need to win these two home matches against Union and New Star,” the new Coach had stated.

The two consecutive victories have lifted PWD from the ninth position to the sixth in pool A, with 15 points ahead of 8th placed Avion FC, who are the Northwest team’s next opponent.

Choupo’s stay with the club got threatened when he was kidnapped by alleged separatist fighters and released after some hours on Friday, April 5, 2019.

In order to assure the coach that every necessary measure is being taken to ensure his safety, Northwest Governor, Adolphe Lele L’Afrique, decided to meet the tactician after his release and expressed his concern for the club.

Coach Choupo’s abduction and release, many fans say may just be the magic the club was waiting for.
