Yaounde (National Times)- Cameroon’s Youth and Civic education Minister Mounouna Foutsou has urged the country’s youth to give the nation’s flag, the honour it deserves in the face of rising acts of disrespect against it.
The appeal surfaced Wednesday April 17th as the minister launched a national campaign tagged “Flag” at the Yaoundé 6 Sub Divisional Council.
This initiative which is spearheaded by Minister Mounouna Foutsou, is meant to make youths become conscious of the fact that, there are some National emblems like the flag which shouldn’t be tampered with.
Activities were staged on the esplanade of the Divisional Officer ( DOs) office in the said municipality. Youths of the National Civic Service Agency for Participation in Development program set the pace with the display of skills on how the flag should be treated when it is hoisted, and how it should be handled.
The exercise equally involved primary schools. Pupils of the Ecole Publique of Biyemassi in Yaounde, who also witnessed the activities.
Minister Mounouna Foutsou’s move is particularly targeting youths in local communities whom authorities expect to receive the message of how the flag is honoured.
This comes after government officials had decried the desecration of Cameroon’s flag on the 26th of January 2019, by members of the famous Brigade Anti-Sardinard (BAS) at diplomatic services abroad especially in Paris.
Moreover, the green, red ,yellow colours of the Cameroon flag have also been rubbished by pro-Ambazonia activists at home and abroad. Such have on many occaisions burned the national flag sparking outrage from authorities.
