Equatorial Guinea Sympathises With Biya Over Demise Of Belinga Eboutou

Yaounde (National Times)-The president of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Guema has extended a message of condolence to Cameroon’s head of state Paul Biya over the loss of his onetime close collaborator and career diplomat Martin Belinga Eboutu.

Baltasar Engonga, Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of State for Regional Integration was bearer of the condolence message among others to Biya Monday June 10.  Minister Baltasar held discussions with president Biya for an hour during which issues of Regional and bilateral relations also came under review.

The condolence message from Equatorial Guinea is the first that has been made public since the demise of Eboutou. The deceased was an influential personality within the Biya regime.

Beyond condolence, both personalities discussed relations between Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon. Aspects of integration within the Central African Economic and Monetary Commission (CEMAC) also featured in discussions. President Biya is the current head of CEMAC.

On his twitter handle, President Biya  wrote that “ today I received  the Minister of State for Regional Integration in the Republic  of Equatorial Guinea. Baltasar Engonga Edjo’o was bearer of a fraternal message from President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo”.

Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea share a lot in common. Both countries share historical and economic ties. Thousands of Cameroonians seek greener pasture in president Obiang’s country while Paul Biya’s Cameroon remains the economic engine room of CEMAC to which Equatorial Guinea benefits from enormously.
