The dead of the Bishop of Eseka in the Centre Region has been announced.
Mgr Dieudonné Bomis was found dead in the early hours of Saturday, August 25, 2018, on his bed. Even though the exact cause of his death is not yet ascertained, it is generally believed that the Prelate died in his sleep. However, a Priest in the Eseka Diocese disclosed that the Bishop had been complaining of ill-health of late though it was not considered a life-threatening issue.
Dieudonné Bogmis, who is the second Bishop to die mysteriously after Bishop Beniot Bala in June, 2017, was born on January 12, 1957 and was appointed Bishop of Eseka in 2004 after Mgr Jean Bosco Ntep.
He was a member of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon and was to host the Bishops of Cameroon in his Diocese in January 2019 for the anniversary of the Diocese.
The death comes at a time when the Roman Catholic Church in Cameroon is facing huge challenges. Since the Anglophone Conflict started, several priests have been killed and several others wounded. Church properties have also been touched. Over in Ngaounderé, thieves attack the Bishop’s House last Thursday and made away with the sum of FCFA 10.9 million.
