The presence of the President of the Confederation of African Football(CAF) Ahmad Ahmad in Cameroon in the wake of the controversy surrounding the country’s hosting rights of the 2019 AFCON is pictured as having delayed Biya’s anticipated visit to Buea this Tuesday.
Incumbent President Paul Biya, candidate of the CPDM at the October 7 Presidential election is expected to grant audience to the CAF President at the Unity Palace.
Ahmad’s visit to Cameroon comes after the African football body said it would announce its final decision on the 2019AFCON after the Presidential election.
Biya is an ardent supporter of football and has made public is conviction to see Cameroon host the continental show piece. The President is expected to use his high office to reassure CAF of Cameroon’s readiness to give Africa a unique and unforgettable experience in June 2019.
Political observers say, Biya might only be heading to Buea within the week after handling the controversial AFCON 2019 file.
The anticipated visit to Buea is of heightened political interest for the CPDM candidate given the persisting Anglophone Crisis. Landmark announcements are expected to be made to enhance the return of law and order in the trouble-plagued North West and South West Region.
At the moment, it is speculated that the President might be in Buea on Wednesday, October 3, to address the population of the North West and South West Regions.
In the early hours of Monday, pictures emerged of the Deputy Scribe at the Presidency, Minister Paul Elung Che, inspecting work at the Buea Independence Square ceremonial ground.
Underground mobilisation at different quarters is known to be underway daily, waiting for the day the President will decide to visit Buea.
