The population of Tombel, Kupe-Muanenguba Division of the South West Region of Cameroon was on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, chased away from the market by some unidentified gunmen.
Over 48 hours after the Presidential election, the population thronged the market to buy and sell their goods, only to discover that some gunmen have infiltrated the market.
The gunmen chased-off the buyers and sellers from the market. Speaking to The National Times, one of those who were chased away from the market said, the gunmen have sworn that the market will only recommence after a month.
Our source said the goods of business persons worth hundreds of thousands of Francs CFA were scattered and shattered by the gunmen.
“After the incident, the forces of law and order stormed the market, leading to a fierce gun battle with the hoodlums.
Even though no casualty was recorded, the incident caused the Divisional capital of Kupe-Muanenguba to be deserted.
Our source said, the incident has forced many people to retreat to the bushes for safety.
It should be stressed here that Kupe-Manugaba Division is among the Divisions in the South West Region that has been hit by the current Anglophone Crisis.
During the Presidential campaigns, which were launched on September 22, 2018, the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement Party (CPDM) led by Minister Paul Elung Che, only succeeded to organise a campaign rally in the Division under heighten security.
