Yaounde (National Times)-Cameroon’s president Paul Biya, signed a decree on Tuesday 4 June creating a commission for the preparation and organisation of the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Both competitions are billed for Cameroon.
Officially named COCAN 20-21, the newly created commission will ensure that everything is set before and during the two African tournaments.
The Commission will have to collaborate with the organisation commission put in place by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The Head of State bestowed this responsibility in the hands of Narcisse Moelle Kombi, Minister of Sports and Physical Education, who will serve as President of the COCAN 20-21.
Kombi will be assisted by the President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) Seidou Mbombo Njoya. He will then propose someone for nomination as special adviser by the COCAN President.
Members of this commission will comprise of a representative from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), three representatives from FECAFOOT, then with two representatives from the Ministry of Sports.
Two representatives from the National Committee for the Preparation of African Football Cups of Nations (COMIP-CAN), are equally added to list of COCAN 20-21 members.
The hosting rights of the 2020 CHAN were given to Cameroon as compensation for losing the 2019 AFCON which was handed to Egypt.
It should be noted that Cameroon replaced Ethiopia for the 2020 African Nations Championship and the Ivory Coast for the 2021 African Cup of Nations.
